Excursions

While learning Spanish it is helpful to participate in the daily life of the foreign country. We want you to have a great time in Ecuador and to achieve that we encourage you to participate in after school activities, where you and the other language students are likely to have a lot of fun. It might be helpful for your progress in the language to be surrounded by Spanish speaking people and to experience the culture in the country of your studies. Movie nights, visits to local museums and trips to nearby sites give you a chance to learn about and understand the Ecuadorian culture. In addition, excursions to interesting places in Ecuador will give you a good impression about Ecuador .

During your stay in Quito among others you can participate in the following excursions:

Otavalo

Otavalo is one of the most known places in Ecuador. Every Saturday the famous Indian market takes place here. Many salesmen offer their goods to tourists and Ecuadorians. Farmers can buy their cattle at the market. Next to chicken and sheep you can also buy camels. The most favored part of the market is the clothes section. Here you can find all kinds of traditional Ecuadorian clothes. You are likely to find a nice souvenir at the market, since you can buy nearly everything: accessories, backpacks, traditional ponchos and hammocks in bright colors.

Mitad del Mundo

Only 22 kilometers from Quito is the equator. A trip to the site offers you the possibility to visit an ethnographical museum inside a huge monument. The museum gives you a lot of information on different Indian cultures in Ecuador . While visiting the museum, you should observe some of the experiments in the Museo Solar, which are only working when being directly at the equator.

After the visit in the museum, we will show you the famous ruin Rumicucho, one of the best reserved buildings from the Incas.

Papallacta

The hot thermal springs in Papallacta are situated in 3300 meter heights approximately 2 hour drive away from Quito. You can enjoy a relaxing bath in the warm pools while have a beautiful view of the mountain region of the Andes .

Baños

The weekend trip to Baños gives you a good impression on Quito. The picturesque town in the Andes is situated at the foot of the Vulcan Tungurahua and offers many sportive and leisure activities.

On Saturday, we will take a trip around the nice area with bicycles and discover many beautiful landscapes with waterfalls, where you can take baths in crystal clear water. On Sunday, we will explore the mountains on a tour with horses.
